It is such a dangerous habit to look at what you have already made and think about what to add next. It constrains you in some way. Starting again from scratch hurts, but once you get over the initial pain its incredibly freeing.

The data I have for panaceaindex.com feels as though I am in command of a large army. Every manuver I make comes at a cost, it is my job to manage supply lines and navigate the terrian all while marching towards a goal.

One way I like to think about my work is that I am either:

• Pruning the data
• Or making output widgets

Data feels more fundamental, but you need widgets to know what to prune! However, good output widgets can never make up for bad data.

I'm not convinced the cognitive benefits of handwriting aren't just because it takes more time.
